He Shoots...He Scores!

So this past weekend I had the opportunity to go to a hockey game! I saw the Houston Aeros and let me tell you it was a great game! I had never been to one before and I was able to check it off my list of sporting events I had been to. The stadium looked like this...

Let me assure you that the stadium did not stay this empty. They were warming up in this picture. I will say that the game was pretty entertaining and I liked how there was 3 periods because that meant we got what seemed like two half times! Also, children's choirs from around Houston came and sang in between the periods. Overall it was an awesome experience, I got to see a real hockey fight and I left with a free Aeros scarf (if you know me you know how awesome I think it is).

After the game our group went to the Chocolate Bar and got our chocolate fix. It truly is an amazing place. We sat and talked and laughed and ate tons of chocolate. It was AMAZING.

It was definitely a great start to a fun-filled weekend!

A Crazy Week...

So my life is a little crazy right now. Working 40+ hours a week and going to school full time is no easy thing. Finals are next week and I cannot wait for them to be over so I can relax a little bit. Those three weeks will be glorious.

Well I start going to a running fellowship group with a group of ladies from church tomorrow. We will meet every Tuesday and Thursday and run for an hour. I am happy about this. I need the accountability! Hopefully I can get into a routine with these ladies and also get to know them at the same time!

I am trying to get ready for the Resolution Run 5k on New Years. It is a run to raise awareness and money for MADD. It should be an awesome event! It's not too late to sign up!

For more information you can check out their website: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Resolution-Run-5k-2010/170544062327

ALSO, a group of 5 or 6 ladies from my work have committed to running the next Warrior Dash next March in Conroe! I have had ladies on a different floor look at my pictures on the website (pretty terrible let me tell you...)and say that I have inspired them. It's funny because I don't feel like I am where I need to be physically to inspire anyone. Hopefully after a few more weeks of continuous running I can start to feel like a runner!

See Jenni....See Jenni Run!

So the past few months I have had this growing interest in running. Actually it has become more of an obsession. I don't want to mislead you in any way, I'm not the best runner. Actually I can just barely run, but I have this desire to get fit and I want to do it through running. Last weekend I ran a race called Warrior Dash with my friends from church and it was a blast! I have never had so much fun! It is a 3 mile course with 11 or so obstacles along the way. The obstacles are things like climbing over cars, walking the plank, climbing up the side of a steep hill, jumping over fire and.....
Climbing under barbed wire in the mud..

Not only was it fun but I thought it was the funniest thing in the whole world. I laughed the whole time. At the end of the race this is what our group looked like

This race really motivated me to really start taking running seriously. The first thing I needed to do was buy a really good pair of running shoes. So I decided to go to Luke's Locker and get fit tested. When I was there the person had me walk barefoot up and down this aisle and he examined my gait or how I walk. He checked to see if my feet were pronating inward or if I was walking on the outsides of my feet. After having me walk back and forth he had a good idea of what I needed. He had me try on four or five different types of shoes and walk up and down the "cat walk" and even had me jog a little on the treadmill. After switching between shoes several times and taking a lot of consideration to my feet I choose...

The Asics Cumulus 12. They were the most comfortable and provided my feet with a great amount of support. They were super light weight and offered enough shock absorbency that my knees felt really good while running.

So, to keep me motivated, my roommate is running with me and we have made small goals for ourselves. When we lose a certain amount of weight we will treat ourselves to things. Our first goal is to lose 10lbs and when we do we will treat ourselves to a nice pedicure. The next is 20 lbs and another treat and the treats increase as we lose more weight. It's a pretty motivating thing because we can't treat ourselves until BOTH of us have reached the goal. This will definitely keep both of us moving!
Some upcoming races I want to sign up for is a New Year's Eve/Day 5k race called Resolution Run. It raises money and awareness for Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD). My roommates and I did it last year and it was a blast. I just hope this year I can finish without walking! I also will sign up for the next Warrior Dash March 19, 2011 in Conroe. So I have quite a few things to keep me motivated. I hope you blog readers out there will come along with me on my journey and even give tips on technique, nutrition, races, etc. Any support would be greatly appreciated!
LET'S RUN!!!

Wow I'm old...

So last night I couldn't sleep so I decided to go onto my old Xanga account and go through all my posts and read the comments from my friends. It was so fun! Xanga is a lot like blogspot...well it could be the same really, just a different name. Let me just tell you, I was sooo dramatic back then. Then again, most children are. I say children because when I look back at my 20-22 year old self I was a child, compared to who I am now. What I was looking for in life was a lot different than now. I had no responsibilities, it was so nice! All I had to do was go to class come home and study...which usually turned into socializing.

Now that I am 26 and I am...gulp... older, I see where my priorities in life have shifted. I even compare my wants back then to my wants now. Everything was so trivial compared to now.

I live in a house now with two awesome girls, just living the life, loving God, and encouraging one another. I love it. It kind of reminds me of college and the Whitehouse...

Going back to Xanga... I forgot how much fun it is to blog! I mean I don't know of anyone who actually uses blogspot except my roomie Sarah, but it will be nice to put my thoughts down and kind of use it to document my life. I wonder what I will think of the present me 5-10 years from now. Will the future me laugh at what the present me and think that I'm dramatic and childish? Haha who knows, I guess I'll just have to see.

Well I guess We shall see what comes of this, I might be over it by tomorrow...who knows.

lovies.
